CHAPTER
COMMENTARY
Throughout
history, in all forms of literature, writers have lamented over the problems
experienced in relationships. This
category contains song quotes that refer to the hardships and experiences of
troubled, struggling, and failing relationships.
What
may be some of the root causes of troubled, struggling, and failing relationships?
The entertainment industry advocates the propaganda that self sexual
gratification, aesthetics appearance, social status, and excessive materialism
are the most important aspect of human relationships.
They probably do this because these appeal to people’s primal instincts
and result in generating them lots of money.
Though primal instincts are real, a relationship built on these elements
is guaranteed to collapse eventually because they cannot support the weight of
life’s challenges.
Perhaps
the long-term success of relationships has more to do with:
real love based on appreciating the inner beauty of the person; having
mutual respect for each other as a person; trusting and believing in each other;
having maturity to recognize the level of commitment necessary to make the
relationship work; working as a team to overcome obstacles together by accepting
roles and looking out for the others personal needs and making sacrifices
everyday; having open and honest two way communication; being each others best
friend and companion and sharing interests; creating balance in one's life by
having interests and friends outside of the relationship; and putting forth a
strong continuous effort throughout the entire relationship like they did when
they first started dating.
There
are no absolute guarantees in life that a relationship will not have its
challenges. In the end, all one can
do is to put all the factors in their favor, work at it, have faith, and hope
for the best.
Is
self sexual gratification, excessive materialism, social status, and aesthetic
appearance the most important aspect to a relationship?
Or are real love, respect, commitment, teamwork, honest and open
communication, friendship, balance, and persistent effort?
